Safeguarding
At Altofts Junior School, safeguarding will always be at the top of our priorities. Through their day-to day contact with pupils and direct work with families, our staff have a crucial role to play in noticing indicators of possible child abuse or neglect. All teaching staff and support staff receive regular Child Protection training. If it appears to a member of staff that a child may have been abused or neglected, the school is required to report these concerns to the Wakefield Safeguarding Children Partnership.Designated Safeguarding Lead

In order to ensure that staff appreciate the safeguarding responsibility that accompanies their job role, we have a clear ‘Code of Conduct’ and a ‘Whistleblowing Policy’. Our ‘Safer Recruitment Policy’ explains the care and attention we take in order to appoint moral and responsible people to work in our school.Operation Encompass
We are an Operation Encompass School which is run jointly between schools and West Yorkshire Police. Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has experienced any domestic abuse. Operation Encompass ensures that a member of the school staff, (DSL) known as a Key Adult, is trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have been experienced a domestic abuse incident. We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and this has been extremely beneficial for all those involved. Operation Encompass previously only informed schools if the child had been present during an incident but this changed last year so even if the child wasn’t present, school will still receive a notification that the police have attended any domestic abuse incident.

Prevent
Prevent work is intended to deal with all kinds of terrorist threats to the UK. The most significant of these threats is currently from terrorist activity linked to far right and Islamist extremists, who pose a continued threat to our safety and security. There is also concern about other extremist groups, for example, extreme left wing or environmental extremism, antisemitism, and extreme misogynist ideology. The Prevent programme is early intervention support to address the personal and social factors which make people more receptive to radicalisation, and to divert them away from being drawn into violent ideologies and criminal behaviour. It works in partnership with front-line professionals such as teachers, health workers, social workers and others, and is delivered by local authority teams, local policing teams, community organisations, and charities. It does not target any one community and is not limited to any age group. The programme provides training for frontline professionals to help them understand and implement the Prevent Duty and protect vulnerable children in their care.CAMHS
