Personal, Social & Health Education
INTENT
At Altofts Junior School, our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE), and Relationships and Sexual Health Education (RSHE) aims to provide our children with tools to lead fulfilling, safe and positive lives. Our curriculum has been designed to provide a balanced and broad approach, which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences for later life. We provide our children with opportunities for them to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society. Our children are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community. We have tailored our sex education programme to fit our students. We have designed RSHE to encourage a self-awareness in our children and for them to take ownership of their mental health, consent and relationships in their life. We aim to build resilience in all of our pupils, regardless of their background, by teaching them in a way, which would equip them for any situation that may arise for them.
IMPLEMENTATION
PSHE education is taught throughout the school and is monitored and reviewed regularly by the staff and governing body. All PSHE teaching that takes place takes place in a safe learning environment.
A clear and comprehensive scheme of work is in place. At Altofts Junior School, we follow the PSHE association scheme and include additional lessons to meet the needs of our school.
