Admissions
If you would like your child to come to Altofts Junior School, please come and have a look around.
To arrange a visit to the school, please call in, or telephone the office on 01924 899449 to make an appointment.
Parents of pupils at infant school are usually asked to complete preference forms in the Autumn of the year before the child starts junior school (in Year 2). Places are allocated in the late Spring / early Summer Term - we have a maximum intake of 90 children in each year group.
Once we know our exact intake, we begin the process of ensuring every child's entry into school is happy and relaxed. In the Summer Term before the September start, our Year 3 teachers liaise closely with the infant schools and spend time getting to know our new pupils. In July, we hold an induction day when the children spend the day in their new classes, and the following week, parents come to an Open Evening with their children to find out more about how we work and ask any questions they might still have. This meeting also gives parents the opportunity to meet and talk with the Year 3 teachers and other members of staff.
Parents of older children, moving into the area, are welcome to make an appointment to visit the school and to discuss admission with the Headteacher or School Business Manager.
All admissions for our school are co-coordinated by Wakefield Council. For details about how to apply for a school place, please see Wakefield Council's admission page. The web pages also set out the Co-ordinated Admissions Policy, which our school adopts.
